Students can enter the Junior Primary program if they turn 4 by December 31 of the year they begin at Sandy Lake Academy

Elementary Program

At SLA students of all backgrounds and nationalities are welcomed where they will enjoy an outstanding and well-rounded education. SLA offers small classes where student-teacher interaction is promoted and close friendships are formed.

The academic program encompasses the core subjects of math, science, language and social studies. Students also have classes in Bible, Choir, Physical Education, Practical Skills, and French. All classes offered satisfy and exceed the provincial curricular requirements as set out by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development in Nova Scotia. To meet these curricular objectives we utilize a mixture of resources developed by the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) church and also others found in Nova Scotia schools. For instance, to get a preview of our SDA Science and Language Arts resources click on the links found below.

Additional student leadership opportunities are available to students interested in serving and developing these skills even at the elementary level. In accordance with our motto, “Service Above Self”, and in an effort to instill a joy of service in this life and for the higher joy of service in the life to come we strive to provide service activities for our students.

Spiritual Training

At Sandy Lake Academy your children will be taught that they are valuable to God, who created them, loves and cares for them daily, and made a way for them to know Him. This way is through Jesus Christ, who died on the cross to pay the penalty for the wrong things we all do, and whose resurrection demonstrates His power to give salvation to all who believe. Now by His Holy Spirit He can befriend and help us, instilling within us His love towards God and others. This Christian gospel message is modeled at SLA, and must be respected by all. However, no student will be put under any pressure to accept or believe these things.
